The Independent Glass Association (IGA) announced today that it has hired Arizona-based Procuratio 360 LLC to provide management services to the organization effective February 15, 2012.

?The climate in automotive glass repair and replacement industry for independent glass retailers remains a challenge for many. The team at Procuratio 360 has the skill set and familiarity with the industry to guide our membership through the obstacles we are faced with today and those we anticipate in the future,? said Alan Epley, president of the association. ?We are thankful for the work that the team at Centric Management and Consulting provided us during our operational transition,? said Rick Rosar, Auto Glass Association board member and owner of Rapid Glass.

Designed at Hyundai’s North American Design Center in Irvine, California the Elantra Coupe takes Hyundai?s dynamic ?Fluidic Sculpture? design principles to the next level, replicating the interaction of wind with rigid surfaces to create a perception of fluid in motion.

Hyundai?s signature hexagonal front fascia opening and jewelled swept-back headlights give Elantra Coupe a lean, aggressive demeanor. Fog lights and available side mirror repeater lamps complement the view from the front.

From the side, Elantra Coupe conveys a wedge-like silhouette with deeply sculpted surfaces. Five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels with dark spoke inserts add a dynamic presence to the SE model, while A- and C-pillar angles frame a sharply tapered greenhouse, further accentuating the wedge profile. Just below the belt line, a prominent character line carries from the door through to the rear boot while wheel arch creases give a subtle flared appearance around front and rear wheels, for a wide and aggressive presence. A beveled rocker panel rounds out the lean and muscular stance.

At the rear, a blacked-out diffuser valance contrasts with dual chrome-tipped exhaust tips, with boot lid incorporates a lip spoiler design element featuring in the SE model.

These sculpted surfaces serve to create a highly aerodynamic body. The drag coefficient for the Elantra Coupe is an exceptionally low 0.28 Cd, resulting in minimal cabin noise intrusion and optimal fuel economy.

The Elantra is fitted with Hyundai?s all-new 1.8L Nu petrol engine. Made from all-aluminium, it?s light, powerful and delivers a power output of 110kW @ 6500 rpm, and torque of 178Nm @ 4700 rpm. Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) camshafts and hydraulic engine mounts for optimum offer power, efficiency, and refinement provide a 30 percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. A true classic car buff, Richard Nash never imagined that he would be restoring 1960s era travel trailers. His wife, Vicky brought home the first vintage trailer in 2005 and so the obsession began. Four trailers have made their way to the Nash driveway. The fully rebuilt 1962 Shasta Airflyte is the gem of the collection.

If not purchased for $ 100 by the Nashes, the 13 foot 1962 Shasta?s fate was sure to be the local dump. A flat tire, broken jack, dilapidated interior, split seams, leaking roof, damaged siding were just a few of the problems to deal with. But being the visionaries that they are, this Colorado couple could see the true potential. A custom home-builder by trade, Richard knows construction. So the demolition began and every inch was stripped down to the frame. The original parts were used as a template to painstakingly rebuild nearly every piece from the ground up. Much of the trim, hardware, and glass was salvaged and reused. A beautiful ash wood, coated with about 5 gallons of amber shellac was used for the interior walls, ceiling and cabinetry. Shiny new aluminum cut to the exact dimensions adorn the roof and side panels. The coveted original silver wings proudly fly on the back.

Vicky served as Creative Director, selecting the red, silver, white and black color scheme. A trip to the paint shop highlighted the famous Z pattern on the exterior. A diner theme carries through the interior space. Cool retro-looking fabric was selected for the cushions and coordinating curtains. Formica countertops and tables feature a boomerang pattern which complements the black-and-white checkerboard floor.

Nine months (and $ 10,000 in materials) later, the completed 1962 made its debut. Reminiscent of a peppermint stick, she was named Candy. Candy has made many appearances at a variety of classic car shows and vintage travel trailer rallies in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. Sometimes she is accompanied by collector cars like a 1968 Ford Mustang. A true show-stopper, Candy won the Ladies? Choice Award and also the People?s Choice Award in respective years at the Grand River Classic Car Show in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She was also pictured on the front page of the Moab Times Independent newspaper.

To complete the ensemble, Richard located a 1961 Ford Galaxy Sunliner convertible which he envisioned pulling the vintage camper. This full restoration included an engine and transmission overhaul, brakes, shocks, black-and-white upholstery, fresh chrome, a new soft top, a matching paint job in Ford Candy Apple Red, and a new hitch with electronic brake control.

?When we drive around with the 1962 Shasta, people smile and give us the ?thumbs up? signal all the time. Everyone wants to know what year it is and what it looks like inside,? says Richard.

This hobby began when Vicky read a magazine article about Sisters On The Fly, a group of women who travel around the country together in antique trailers painted with colorful murals. ?I thought that looked like so much fun. And I didn?t even camp!? exclaims Vicky. So she started searching for a trailer and found a 1970 Shasta hunting trailer with camouflage curtains for sale in Denver. Fortunately, Richard was a good sport and agreed to help fix it up. Even though there was some hail damage to the top and back, the trailer was in decent shape. It underwent a cosmetic transformation. When it went on the road, it was a big hit. So the Nashes were hooked. However, their preference was the more rounded ?canned ham? style trailers so they sold the 1970 box version and began the hunt for an earlier model.

Since the completion of the 1962, a 1961 Shasta has joined the fleet. Richard was about to embark on a new home construction project so needed an onsite office. As luck would have it, he came upon a 16 foot Shasta (sans wings) for sale. So with a fresh coat of black and white paint, the trailer was retrofitted with a computer desk and drafting table complete with filing cabinets, refrigerator and microwave.

It is true that once people are enamored with vintage trailers, they can never own just one. Somehow a 1968 Serro Scotty has also made its way to the Nash residence. They are thinking of turning that into a gardening shed for the backyard. Or perhaps it could be a custom order to sell to another trailer junkie.

Syracuse car accident attorney Scott C. Gottlieb today said he supports New York Sen. Charles Schumer?s call for providing more funds to combat the growing threat posed by drugged drivers.

?As an attorney who represents victims of New York auto accidents, I?ve personally become more and more concerned about the rise in car crashes that are caused by drivers who are under the influence of drugs ? and not just illegal drugs,? said Gottlieb of the Syracuse personal injury firm, the Law Offices of Scott C. Gottlieb & Associates. ?The number of drivers who are taking prescription and over-the-counter drugs that impair their driving has become a problem as well.

?In my view, drugged driving is just as serious of a public safety concern as drunk driving,? he said. ?That?s why I wholly support any measures that would help law enforcement to get these reckless drivers off the road and protect innocent motorists.?

In a January 30 announcement, Schumer called for passage of the Motor Vehicle and Highway Safety Improvement Act of 2011. The bill would increase funding for the research of drugged-driving detection technology. It also would provide grants to states to train officers on identifying drugged drivers.

Citing New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services statistics, Schumer said that drugged driving arrests in the state have increased by 35 percent since 2001.

In Central New York (a region that includes Syracuse, Ithaca, Cooperstown, Rome, Utica, Oneida, Auburn, Cortland, Little Falls and surrounding communities), there were 147 drugged driving arrests, Schumer said.

The senator cited other alarming statistics from 2009 (the last year such statistics are available):

????According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, out of the 12,055 drivers who died in car accidents in the U.S. in 2009 who were tested for drugs, one-third tested positive.

????Based on an estimate by the Institute for Behavior and Health, 440,000 people across the U.S. were injured in 2009 in car crashes caused by drugged driving.

?The bottom line is that our cops need a breathalyzer-like technology that works to identify drug-impaired drivers, on-the-spot, before they cause irreparable harm,? Schumer said. ?With the explosive growth of prescription drug abuse, it?s vital that local law enforcement have the tools and training they need to identify those driving under the influence of narcotics to get them off the road.?

If a person is harmed in a motor vehicle accident caused by a drug-impaired driver ? or if they lose a family member in such an accident ? Gottlieb said they have a legal right to hold the driver accountable.

Through a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit, an auto accident victim or survivors of a person killed in a crash may be able to recover compensation through a jury verdict or insurance settlement that includes medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering and other related damages, the Syracuse personal injury lawyer said.

?Through our civil justice system, you can send a message to the drugged driver and others that such reckless conduct won?t be tolerated in our community,? he said.

Misfeeds are a relatively likely occurrence, explains The ?Crisis Ops? column, and this happens when a round is not loaded into the chamber. Next the ?Crisis Ops? column says to make sure the malfunction is not a squib load, which is a relatively dangerous malfunction, where there is not enough force to propel the bullet out of the barrel. The ?Crisis Ops? column says, a squib is often easily noticeable, because in a semi automatic pistol the slide will not cycle and a new round will not be chambered. The ?Crisis Ops? column says, if a squib load does happen, remove the magazine and clear the obstruction immediately.

The Absolute Rights newsletter ?Crisis Ops? column says, the next thing to do is to make sure the malfunction is not a hangfire, which is when the burning of the cartridge’s propellant is delayed. The ?Crisis Ops? column says, the only reason to try and immediately clear the malfunction is if there is live-fire going on, during a real confrontation, to lower the risk of the round eventually firing. The ?Crisis Ops? column says, if there is a hangfire, keep the firearm pointed downward for at least 10 seconds before attempting to clear.

The Absolute Rights newsletter ?Crisis Ops? column advises to correct the malfunction through immediate action, by pulling the slide back, then ejecting the last round. Closely observe the ejection and the round, says the ?Crisis Ops? column, because if there is still lead on the bullet, the round didn’t fire. If the lead is gone, says the ?Crisis Ops? column, it may indicate a weapon malfunction, so observe the chamber, and check for double feeds, or things that don’t belong. Then release the slide, seating the next round, the ?Crisis Ops? column says, deactivate the safety and attempt to fire the weapon. If it still fails to fire, the ?Crisis Ops? column advises, remove the magazine and eject the current round, then turn the weapon over to a gun expert for repair.
